Raymond A. Jacobsen, Jr. ’71
Ray Jacobsen leverages his legal and business expertise to mentor UD students and alumni. Along with his wife, Marilyn, AS72, he created the Jacobsen Scholarship to support students in the College of Arts and Sciences who are interested in pursuing a law degree.
He is currently partner in one of the largest law firms in the world, McDermott Will and Emery LLP, where he serves as global head of the firm’s Antitrust Practice and is a member of the Management Committee. For more than 30 years, Ray has successfully defended more than 200 complex mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures in the United States, Europe and the Far East. Ray has represented major companies, including Lockheed Martin, Amgen, PepsiCo, Greyhound and Mobil, on many of their biggest transactions and lawsuits, and he has successfully defended numerous Federal Trade Commission and Justice Department investigations.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science before earning his Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown Law School. Ray has organized and chaired the Washington, D.C. committee of the Jefferson Awards for Public Service, which recognize and encourage public service activities by youth, and he has chaired two American Bar Association committees. In 2015, he was honored with the UD Alumni Wall of Fame award. Ray also served as a founding member of the College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Advisory Council.
