David R. Helwig ’73
David Helwig has been a force of positive change throughout UD and especially in the College of Engineering, where he serves on the College Advisory Council. In 1999, Dave, with his wife Connie, BE73, established the Helwig Mechanical Engineering Fellowship that recognizes ambitious, creative and innovative graduate students with interdisciplinary spirit and vision and the drive to become leaders in their fields. Their generosity has also supported the college’s Alumni Distinguished Professorship.
Dave has more than 40 years of leadership experience in domestic and international energy related companies, including engineering, construction, operations and corporate roles. He is the owner and president of Helwig Consulting Services as well as the executive chair of GTL Energy and Director of Rosendin Electric, one of the largest and most progressive electrical contractors in North America. He received the Presidential Citation for Outstanding Achievement in 1993, the Engineering Alumni Association’s Outstanding Alumni Award in 1995 and the College of Engineering Outstanding Alumni award in 2000. In 2012, he was honored with the UD Alumni Wall of Fame award. Dave serves on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of the Upper Keys.
