Charles A. Genuardi ’70
Charles Genuardi and his wife, Patricia, are steadfast supporters of causes that advance retail science and food safety here at UD. In 2004, they established the Charles and Patricia Genuardi Scholarship to support undergraduates who major in food and agribusiness marketing and management. The scholarship speaks to Charles’ passion for and experience in the food industry as does the couple’s generous contribution to expand the research capacity of Worrilow Hall and include an innovation laboratory that will help expand UDairy’s production. The Hall is a hub for food, animal, soil and plant sciences studies on campus.
Charles was CEO and president of Genuardi’s Family Markets, a privately owned, regional supermarket chain, until its sale to Safeway in 2001. He is one of the founding members of the Philadelphia Food Bank, vice president of the Genuardi Family Foundation Board and president of the Mourning Dove Foundation. In 2005, he was honored with the UD Alumni Wall of Fame award. While at UD, Charles was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
